But when tragedy strikes, it will take all the love and strength the family can muster to restore hope, in this sweeping, heartwarming epic the whole family will love.

Movie Review:

A beautiful scenic film for anyone who loves horses or horse movies. The story is moving and touching. It was nice to see a story about a family - with both Mother and Father, working together to raise their children and work on their farm.

Their daughter, Katy, is adventerous and headstrong - often going against her Fathers wishes. She is determined to train a Mustang, she has named Flicka. Katy sneeks out at night - when everyone is sleeping to work with the horse. Katy takes several falls off the horse, but always gets up again. When her father learns she has been training the horse, he decides it's time to sell it.

Katy is again determined to get the Mustang, her beloved Flicka, back and prove her independence. In a wild mustang competition - she gets her brother to compete with her - and she catches Flicka and rides him out of the arena and out into the woods. However, on their way home, a violent storm rages, rain soaks them, and in the dark of night, Flicka is attacked by a cougar.

They are both eventually found, Katy is sick and Flicka is weak. The question then becomes... will Flicka be able to survive or will Katy's Father put him down?

In the end, Father and Daughter will finally come to terms with their differences and accept one another. It's a beautiful happy ending - I think you'll enjoy!

I also love the Tim McGraw song, "My Little Girl". It is so beautiful!

My Apology for Downton Abbey

If you have been following my blog over Christmas, then you may have read the post - saying that we had to postpone our Family Christmas Dinner and Opening of Presents due to the cold/flu. Well, thankfully, everyone in our family is well now, and we were able to have our Family Christmas get together last Sunday evening, January 9th.

That same Sunday evening was the night Downton Abbey premiered on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre; therefore, I was not able to watch that night, and just learned yesterday afternoon of the non-family friendly content in the film. I was disheartened to hear of this news, as I was so looking forward to watching an intelligent historical film with my family, as we all enjoyed the Cranford Series.

I apologize to each and every one of you, especially any of you, who watched this with children. When I originally promoted this movie, I wrote that I was not certain if it would be family-friendly, and unfortunately that was right. It was not. As a Christian, I cannot recommend this movie to anyone and I will remove this film from the Family Schedule, and other pages, but I will keep it in the Movie Review Section to inform others.

Please know, that when a Movie is New to TV, I have not viewed it, yet. Unfortunately, I do not have access to these films to see them before they air. I always recommend that you read the synopsis, check ratings, etc... before watching with your families. Also, I always appreciate you all giving your feedback and all the information you share regarding these films, as well.

I am personally, so tired of the constant immorality portrayed on Modern TV, along with the lack of Parental Authorities and Teenage Discipline. There's nothing Pretty about Little Liars and Parents should know the Secret Lives of their American Teenagers. Sadly, these programs must get good ratings to stay on TV and promote their sinfulness. Our family is definitely not watching these and other programs like them.

I really never dreamed such content would be in this film. Again, I apologize for sharing Downton Abbey. I appreciate all of you who visit my site and it is my desire to share with you what is good and wholesome for your family movie night.

May God bless you and your families as you strive, in this world today, to teach your children what is good and right!

Movie Review - Christmas Cupid

Often, you all write and share your thoughts on Movies, and I so appreciate that. Most of the time they are brief comments on whether you liked the movie or not. This one was different. I just received a very well-written review of Christmas Cupid I wanted to share with all of you - below the Movie image in bold text.

I, generally, enjoy all Christmas Movies and do my best to catch them all... However, it is a busy time of year and that is not always possible. Most movies I watch because I enjoy Christmas Movies - some I watch just to give a review here.

Well, after seeing the endless annoying Commercials promoting Christmas Cupid during other Christmas movies I was watching - our family decided not to watch this one. And, please trust me, this is very rare. But, after reading the review below, sent in by one you - I am so very glad we did!

Movie Review - Christmas Cupid:

"First I want to thank you for your wonderful Christmas movie list. It is a tradition in my family to watch Christmas movies together.

Everyone should avoid putting Christmas Cupid on their list. It is being shown on the family channel of all things! The movie was advertised to death on Cox Cable. I love Christmas movies old and new. This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. There was no passion for Christmas or any of the meaning that go along with the holiday. The chemistry amongst the actors was non-existent. The main character who played Cupid had a martini in her hand the entire time, even in the after life. She even commented that she was not worried about “getting her angel wings on the other side”, because there was an open bar. At the end when Cupid’s love struck friend lifted her own martini glass to toast her beloved Cupid friend, I was left more than disappointed.

The message sent by this movie had nothing to do with Christmas, or with Cupid for that matter. It was more than disappointing. If any of you have children, I would not recommend this movie for them. It contains vulgar language, sexual activity without consequence at a young age and at an age were the main character should know better, backstabbing work place values along with sexual activity with fellow co-workers, alcoholism that is never controlled etc. Parents already have a hard enough time managing the ever existent pressures children already have in real life. I just turned on the television and it is on right now on the ABC “family” channel. Some family movie this one is.

I think the writer of the film needs to be visited by a few Christmas ghosts past and present to teach them the meaning of Christmas. Our world needs more than this now in order to heal. People need something during these times that makes them feel good. That warm fuzzy feeling.

Anyway, if you have not seen this movie I recommend you save a few moments of your precious life and watch something else. Go and do a random act of kindness for someone. Maybe that will make up for how bad this movie is. ABC has really let down their followers on the family channel. First it was Dirty Little liars and now Christmas Cupid. Christmas Cupid should have warning statements before anyone has to view it.

Have a happy holidays, and walk with great discernment. Surround yourself with good family, and friends."

J.J.

Thank you, J.J., for your very informative review. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. After reading your comments, I must say they confirmed all my suspicions regarding the movie. I am glad to post your review and warn others who have strong beliefs in what a true Angel should be like, and feel as I do, that a Christmas Movie should uphold certain values in representing this Holy Season!

Thank you & God Bless You!

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

PLOT:

All Roads lead Home is an award-winning drama for the entire family that will make you laugh and cry. Bell (Vivien Cardone), an animal loving 12 year old, becomes sullen and withdrawn after her mother s death in an automobile accident. Rebelling against her father (Jason London), she is sent to live at the horse ranch of her gruff maternal grandfather (Peter Coyote). With the help of the animals, Belle s work on the farm transforms the entire family. Life and death take on new meaning as the family makes some tough choices involving compassion, trust, and letting go of the past in order to find hope in the future.

Movie Review:

Although, the Cast in this movie was great - the Movie, itself, was not.

This was Peter Boyle's (Frank, from Everybody Loves Raymond) last movie before passing away in December of 2006.

The movie is rated PG, but I do not think it is a great movie for young viewers- due to violence. First of all, there's an intense car crash scene. The little girl's mother is killed. Later, she blames her father for pulling the plug too soon and giving up hope at the Hospital. He explains to her that he decided to hang on to her longer, but now regrets it. I thought this was strange and horrible. What if she had come back to them in that time?

There is also violence shown to animals. It is believed that a dog is in a bag that is tossed in the river under a bridge. A dog bites a man on the farm and instead of the authorities taking the dog in - the grandfather decides they'll take care of it, in other words kill, or rather, put the dog down themselves... and they are all so proud of the little girl for deciding to do this herself. The vet talks her through it and how to give the dog the lethal injection. I couldn't believe it... this is horrible - to make a little girl kill her favorite pet - how cruel and odd!

I was hoping this would be a cute family, farm, and horse movie. It was filmed, for the most part, in the country - but the story centered mostly around dogs and the odd relationship of the grandfather, who mistreated animals, with his granddaughter, who loved animals, and the son-in-law, who works for animal control, and his love interest, a local vet, who was having trouble tracking down why a lot of her dog patients were suddenly dying.

It was such a sad movie - until right at the very end - when they fixed up Poovey's (played by Peter Boyle) old hotel and turn it into an Animal Rescue Shelter.

I must suggest skipping this one.

On the brink of stardom, however, a cruel twist of fate threatens to destroy her dream. With the help of a loving friend, Al Carver (Michael Schoeffling), Sonora proves that if you want something badly enough, anything is possible!

Movie Review:

This is one of those captivating movies, that once you begin watching it - you just can't take your eyes off of it... it is truly beautiful and inspiring!

Young Sonora, finds herself on her own at a young age. Her parents have passed away and an Aunt has taken her in, as well as her little sister. There is a depression going on, though, so money is tight. When her aunt tells her she is giving her over to the state, Sonora runs away and applys to Doc Carver, a showman, to be his new Diving Girl. (this act entails diving a horse off a forty foot tower into a pool of water!) She dreams of going to Atlantic City and living a life of adventure! He doesn't think she has what it takes, mainly beauty, but he must admire her spunk, because he takes pity on her and gives her a job cleaning the horse stalls.

In time, Sonora and Doc's son, Al, grow fond of one another while caring for the horses and breaking a wild horse together, however Al and his father disagree over how to run the business and Al leaves. While he is gone, he writes Sonora nearly everyday, however those letters never reach her, because his father destroys or hides them.

The show goes on, in spite of Al's absense, and Sonora continues to travel on to each new city. When the opportunity arrives, Sonora finally gets her chance to be a "Diving Girl". She has trained for it and it is her dream. She doesn't quite fit into the suit or the role, just yet, but after her first dive- she is elated! Sonora eventually becomes their official Diving Girl.

Al returns where dreams come true, Atlantic City, and life changes again. He and his father make ammends and eventually... Al and Sonora find true love, even through hardship and life's struggles. It's a story of determination and courage. Once you see it, you will never forget it... it's beautiful and captivating - a Disney Gem!

I recall seeing this movie years ago, as a young girl who loves horses. I still find it to be just as moving and inspirational, as it was then!

This Movie is based on a True Story.

Oliver Macready ... Aaron Claridge
Tiffany Amber Knight ... Laura Graham

PLOT:

from RHI:

A woman’s dream to forge a new life for herself on the great American plains becomes a test of her pioneering spirit, her inner strength, and her undying faith.

By covered wagon, Marty (Katherine Heigl, Roswell) and Aaron Calridge (Oliver Macready, That '70s Show) have come west in search of fortune. But unforeseen tragedy leaves Marty a widow facing bleak prospects for the future. With a bitter winter season approaching and no safe passage back home, she finds herself stranded yet befriended by settlers Ben Graham (Golden Globe nominee Corbin Bernsen, L.A. Law) and his wife Sarah (Theresa Russell, Black Widow). They encourage her to take up widower Clark Davis (Dale Midkiff, Nancy Drew) on his unusual offer—join him in a temporary marriage of convenience. Marty will have a roof over her head until the spring thaw when she can return home. In the meantime, Clark’s nine-year-old daughter Missie (Skye McCole Bartusiak, Don't Say a Word) will have a teacher.

As promised, the arrangement is strictly business. However, teaching Missie, who’s still grieving for her mother, becomes as challenging as living with Clark, a man cut off from his emotions. For three people, each mourning someone they’ve lost, comfort comes from sharing their pain and hardships. But is it enough to make two lonely hearts recognize what they really need and want? As the seasons pass, and Marty gets closer to the day of her departure, she finally discovers the meaning of courage, her inner faith, a love she never thought possible, and the bittersweet truth in her friend Sarah’s sage advice: Bloom where you’re planted.

Based on Janette Oke’s cherished best-selling series of books, and written and directed by Michael Landon, Jr., this inspiring love story of a more innocent time is illuminated by the same warmth and wisdom that made Little House on the Prairie such enduring family entertainment.

Movie Review:

Such a precious story of the Lord's Amazing Love.

This is an absolutely wonderful Family Movie completely based upon the Christian Book Series by Janette Oke. My precious Aunt gave this book to me many years ago as a Christmas Present... long before the Hallmark Channel or any ideas of it being made into a movie. I absolutely adored it and longed to read each book in the series that followed Clark and Marty Davis's family.

This first movie, Love Comes Softly, is the only one that follows along with the storyline of the books. This was disappointing to me, as an avid reader and follower of this particular series that the other movies didn't follow suit.

You will find yourself completely captivated in this western love story of Clark and Marty Davis. Marty has come west with her husband, Aaron Claridge, and upon arriving, he is involved in a fatal accident on his horse. Marty will not be able to go back home to the east now until the wagon train returns in the spring. So with the long winter ahead and all alone, Marty has no options other than to accept Clark Davis's offer of marriage and live with him and his daughter throughout the winter. At first, Marty and Clark's daughter, Missie butt heads and disagree over just about everything... but eventually they warm up to one another with small acts of kindness. Marty realizes that she and Missie are both grieving, Marty for her husband and Missie for her Mother. This emotional tie bonds them together. Marty teaches Missie to spell and read and sews her a lovely dress made out of one of her own. It's such a touching scene.

Through the winter months, Clark & Marty draw together and certainly Love Comes Softly... but neither one is willing to admit it to the other. Clark has promised that he would buy Marty's ticket back on the wagonn train when the time comes, and when it does, Marty secretly sends a note to Clark asking him to ask her to stay. When Clark does not ask her to stay, Marty thinks he doesn't want her, so she proceeds with her plans to leave. At the station, they tearfully say goodbye and Marty gives her Mother's locket to Missie.

After Marty is gone, Clark and Missie are solemn. Clark goes to his room to pray and falls to his knees. When he finishes, he discovers Marty's note on the floor... and realizes he has to go after her. Will he reach her in time? Will she choose to return? You will love to watch this movie to see how beautifully it ends.

The casting in it is just wonderful. I just loved Katherine Heigl as Marty Claridge, Dale Midkiff as Clark Davis, and the little girl who played Missie Davis, Skye McCole Bartusiak, was absolutely fantastic!

It's a story Men, Women, and Children will enjoy.... a true Family Film.

PLOT:

A pioneering clan struggles to stay together—for the family, for the land, and for the promise of the future—amid life’s adversities…

With few alternatives, pioneer widow Marty Claridge (Katherine Heigl, Roswell) took up with Clark Davis (Dale Midkiff, Nancy Drew), a tough widower with a daughter named Missie(January Jones, Love Actually). What began as a relationship that was strictly business led unexpectedly to deep compassion and respect. Now they have a farm to tend, a family to feed, and a lot of love to give. However, the new season is bringing unexpected surprises and hardships since an accident has left Clark incapacitated. Facing the risk of losing their crop, Marty and the kids pull together. But for nineteen-year-old Missie, life is offering something else as she discovers a new beginning of her own…

Two new suitors are vying for the attention of the lovely young schoolteacher: handsome Grant Thomas (Mackenzie Astin, The Facts of Life), a railroad man surveying the land, and Nate (Logan Bartholomew, American Wedding), a mysterious traveler who’s been tending to Clark’s medical needs as well as his farm. Little does Clark realize, but he’s become a link between this enigmatic stranger and an old friend named Zeke, who harbors a dark secret that has shadowed his life. As Nate’s true identity and mission are revealed, so is his deep affection for Missie.

Based on award-winning author Janette Oke’s beloved series of bestselling books and directed by Michael Landon, Jr. (Love Comes Softly), Love’s Enduring Promise is heartening and inspiring entertainment for the entire family.

Movie Review:

Love's Enduring Promise is my favorite of all the Love Comes Softly Movies. I just adore the love story of Missie and Willie, portrayed by the lovely January Jones and very handsome Logan Bartholomew.

From the start, it's a very sweet story of a family who loves and cares for one another. When Clark's leg is injured in an accident, the family comes together and works hard to try and get the crops in the ground, even though this is hard work for a young woman, like Missie. Willie sees her struggling and comes to the rescue by helping out with the farmwork. Secretly, he has really returned to their town to make amends with his father over their past differences.

In the meantime, Willie and Missie become good friends while working on the farm and riding together, however at this same time, a suitor, Grant Thomas, comes to call on Missie. She enjoys his attention and considers the possibility of becoming his wife. Willie is heartbroken and decides he will leave town when he believes Missie and Grant will be married. Before he leaves, he reveals to Missie his true identity as Nate, the little boy who used to tease her in school when they were children. He even returns to her some ribbons that he had kept from many years ago. That is such a sweet moment.

Now, Missie has to decide who she loves and wants to spend the rest of her life with... Grant Thomas, a rich railroad man, who tells her that she will never have to work or want for anything... Or, will she choose Willie Lahaye, the young man who has nothing but a dream of a Cattle Farm. Missie's father advises her "to never despise meager beginnings..."

It's truly a very sweet and precious Love story. Love beyond the romantic sense... Love of God and Love of Family, as well.

Movie Review:

If you love Period Movies like Anne of Green Gables, Pride & Prejudice, and Little Women, etc... then you should also enjoy Cranford and Return to Cranford.

Both, a part of PBS's Masterpiece Series. They take you to a different class of time when Men were Gentlemen and Women were Ladies... and if they were not, they were looked down upon by all proper society. I watched these shows with my family on PBS in May of 2008 and this December/January 2010... and was delighted to learn my dear Aunt had been watching and enjoying them, as well. It is a series, that people of all ages can enjoy (exception for very small children who would most likely would not understand or be completely entertained).

In many ways it is deeply moving and tells not only a story, but is very detailed in telling of the lives of this inhabitance titled Cranford, where life is not always perfect, there is happiness and sadness, death and life, tragedy, romance, and great happiness! Very Entertaining!
