Update to "Grandparent Movie List"

Many are still honoring Grandparents Day this week or weekend - so I just wanted to share, that I added three more movies to the "Grandparent Movies" List.

See the new additions - here!

Please leave a comment - if you have a movie suggestion, or if you especially like one that was mentioned, etc...

I was blessed to spend Sunday, Grandparents Day, with mine. It's important to share time together, respect our elders, and listen to the stories they tell of yesteryear.

God bless you, Precious Grandparents!

Grandparents Day is this Weekend... Movies to Inspire!

Happy Grandparents Day...
to any of you, reading my blog today,
who happen to have the blessing
of being a Grandmother
or Grandfather!

Grandparents Day is officially marked on the calendar on Sunday, September 11th, 2011. I know some people have celebrated this occassion in advance this year, due to the date of the event... so I decided to go ahead and post about it now.

I am trying to think of my Favorite Family Movies, that are about Grandparents - so check out these few and let me know if you have any suggestions...

A Grandpa for Christmas - yes, of course it is a Christmas Movie... but it is so much more! It is beautiful to see the relationship between Bert, the Grandfather, and Rebecca, the Grandaughter, develop over time. It is a precious Hallmark Movie and I look forward to watching it every time it is on the Hallmark Channel.

The Waltons - no, this isn't a movie... but to me, Grandpa and Grandma Walton are such terrific Grandparents - they had to be included. Perhaps you could watch the best episodes with Grandpa and Grandma. To me, their best, is their last episode together - titled: Grandma Comes Home. I also love it when they celebrate their Anniversary, Grandma wears her gown, Grandpa wears a dark suit, and they dance... it's so lovely!

Heidi - Every one seems to love various versions of this film... about sweet Heidi and her Grandfather. I am particularly fond of the Shirley Temple Version. She is such a terrific little actress!

*Heidi on DVD

Come Away Home - This is about a Twelve-year-old, named Annie Lamms. Her parents have decided she should spend the summer with her Grandpa.... and then, the adventure begins!

The Princess Diaries 2 : The Royal Engagement -  Both of these Movies show the growing relationship between a Grandmother and Granddaughter, who have never met.

Meet My Mom - A Soldier Love Story - a sweet story of a mother and son, who go to live with her Mother... and start their lives aknew.

To Grandmothers House we go... this is a sweet Christmas family film. In spite of the name Grandmother being in the title, she isn't in the movie much. The movie stars the Olsen Twins, as little girls and their goal is to make it to Grandma's House by Christmas. They do and she looks like the traditional grey haired, with bun, cookie baking, Grandmother. Perfectly sweet.

Generation Gap - A rebellious teenager is forced to spend the summer with his grandfather (Edward Asner), a retired World War II Colonel. Their differences may go deeper than just the years that seperate them, but the two slowly develop a mutual respect - and love - for one another.

Homecoming - This is a Sweet and Emotionally stirring story of four young children who seek out their grandmother, after being abandoned by their mother in a mall parking lot. However, their Grandmother, unfortunately, is neither welcoming or pleased to have them in her home, but eventually her heart begins to gradually open up to them.

Meet Me in St. Louis - A Beautiful Movie Musical, starring Judy Garland. The Film is set in 1903, in which a happy family is on the verge of leaving their hometown and moving to New York. An important part of this tight-knit family is Grandpa, who escorts Esther to the Christmas Dance!

Hope you enjoy these family films.

God bless you all...

PLOT:

from Hallmark-

When a city-bred journalist heads to small-town Illinois for a story, her one-day visit turns into a much longer stay with the toss of a coin when Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Ernest Borgnine, Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Sally Kellerman and Jordan Ladd ("Death Proof") star in "The Wishing Well".

Celeb magazine writer Cynthia Tamerline (Ladd), who is happy to have never left New York City, is less than thrilled when her boss sends her to Slow Creek, Illinois to write about the town's wishing well. Out of place and uncomfortable from the moment she arrives, Cynthia plans to write her story and return to the city in record time. From eccentric hotel owner Big Jim (Borgnine) to Donette (Kellerman), his ex-wife and the town's resident waitress/unofficial psychiatrist, everyone's got an opinion on the well's supposed powers.

While taking a look at the well for herself, Cynthia meets 10-year-old Abby Jansen (Gould), a loyal believer in the well's wish-granting powers. On the other hand, Abby's father, Mark (London), who owns the town's local newspaper, stopped believing in miracles after his wife's death a few years before. But things begin to change after Abby and Cynthia wish for the same thing simultaneously: To simply be happy.

On the flight home, Cynthia dozes off on the plane, and the next thing she knows, she wakes up back in her hotel room in Slow Creek. She only gets more confused when the people who should know her don't, those who do recognize her claim to have had interactions with her that she doesn't remember at all, and all of her expensive clothes and gadgets have been replaced with average ones. At first, Cynthia is convinced she's the butt of a very thorough practical joke, but in just the few days she spends there, she'll see the life she could be living and will have to decide where she belongs.

Movie Review:

Please Note: There could be some Movie SPOILERS in this Review...

This Hallmark Movie was sweet, delightful, and fun. I adored seeing Ernest Borgnine (I'm a big fan of "A Grandpa for Christmas", in which he plays Grandpa Bert, and I kept wishing while watching the movie that he would be in the movie more. (Guess I need a wishing well!) Unfortunately, he was not. Even still, it was wonderful to see him and I hope he’ll be in many more Hallmark Movies – he’s terrific!

Now for the Movie... as I mentioned, it was sweet... a Magazine Writer, Cynthia Tamerline (Jordan Ladd), leaves New York City, relunctantly, to write a story in a small town about their Wishing Well. She stays in a Bed & Breakfast, run by Big Jim (Ernest Borgnine) and the Wishing Well is located at the B&B, right outside her window. Cynthia quickly meets and becomes acquainted with Abby Jansen (Jadin Gould), a young girl who often comes to the Wishing Well to toss in a coin and make a wish for her Father’s Happiness.

Soon enough, we find out that Abby’s father is the widowed, Mark Jansen (Jason London), who is the owner of the local town newspaper... the two spar when Cynthia is trying to find research for her “Wishing Well Story”, and there is definite chemistry between the two. Cynthia does her research and leaves the town the next morning.... but not before making her own wish in the wishing well for her own Happiness! She and Abby make their wishes together.

While on the plane flying home, Cynthia falls asleep... and when she awakens, she is back in the small town at Big Jim’s B&B... her designer clothes are gone and replaced with simple tops and pants. When Cynthia tries to contact her workplace in New York, no one knows her there. She goes to the local Newspaper Business... and they inform her that she has been hired to work there. Cynthia is puzzled, but takes the job and eases into life there... living at the B&B, working at the Newspaper, helping the towns people, saving the newspaper from being sold, and she becomes friendly with Abby, Big Jim, and Donette, the waitress at the local diner, and eventually, she becomes romantically involved with Mark.

SPOILER:
Just when you think, Cynthia has received her wish and found real Happiness... she awakens on the plane on her way home, again... and everything that has just happened, was only a Dream! This was surprising to me.... because, by this time, there is only about 10-15 minutes left in the movie...

What Cynthia does from here, brings her potential Happiness... but the story is wrapped up so quickly, that it was disappointing to me, that they spent so much time on the dream segment of the story and not on reality.

All in all, it is such a cute Family Movie with No Bad Language, Sex, or Violence. The main characters are so sweet and likable... I couldn’t help from enjoying it with my family!

See, if you would like something simple and sweet!

PLOT:
from Hallmark:

Academy Award® and Golden Globe winner – and Hollywood legend -- Ernest Borgnine stars as a retired showman who is forced into guardianship over the nine-year-old granddaughter he’s never met after his estranged daughter is hospitalized following a car crash in “A Grandpa for Christmas,” a Hallmark Original Movie premiering Saturday, November 24 (9/8 c). Young star Juliette Goglia (“Joan of Arcadia”) stars opposite the iconic Borgnine. Katherine Helmond (“Everybody Loves Raymond”), Tracy Nelson (“Down and Out in Beverly Hills”) and Jamie Farr (“M*A*S*H”) star in this warm tale of a separated family coming together under some unusual circumstances.

80-year-old Bert O’Riley (played by the spry 90-year-old Borgnine) agrees to take in his nine-year-old granddaughter, Becca (Goglia) after his estranged daughter, Marie, (Nelson) is involved in a car accident. A 25-year divorcee, Bert’s not much good at living with other people, much less a little girl who’s been told only the worst about her grandfather.

As Becca slowly warms to Bert, the two find a connection in a school Christmas pageant which Becca wishes to join. Bert enlists the help of his fellow showbiz retiree pals – Roxie (Helmond), Adam (Farr) and Karl (Richard Libertini, “The District”) – to help get her in shape. Bert is eventually called on to take over the show, bringing Christmas joy to his granddaughter, his family and his friends back in his home.

Movie Review:

This is such a lovely and delightful Christmas Movie - that the entire family can enjoy together.

It teaches a great lesson in life about family... in trusting and loving one another.

There are a few Cautions for Children: (Possible SPOILERS) Becca's mother, Marie, is involved in a car accident. It is not violent or graphically shown. Marie is shown lying in the hospital resting, and does recover. Bert, the Grandfather, has a heart attack, while at the park with Rebecca, but also recovers at the hospital.

I loved the scenes with Rebecca singing and dancing. Those moments were absolutely wonderful! Any little girl who loves to sing or takes dance lessons will love this movie! The routine at the end is Fantastic! She has such a strong singing voice for such a little girl. I also loved seeing the bond between the Grandfather & Grandaughter. It's a beautiful story of a family re-uniting and finding joy together at Christmas-time!
