World Series Baseball + Favorite Baseball Movies

Well, if you saw my post yesterday, then you read that I was cheering for the Texas Rangers to win the World Series Baseball Game last night. (game 6) I stayed with it... all the way into 11 (edge of my seat!) innings.... and they unfortunately, lost. With the games tied up 3-3 - it's any body's ball game now - and I'll be cheering on the Rangers tonight! (October 28, 2011)

*Inspired by the World Series, I was trying to think of my favorite baseball movies - and immediately, of course came to mind...

The Sandlot (the first Sandlot movie). It is so nostalgic - a true classic! I remember the first time I saw it - our family rented it on Video from our local Video Rental Store and watched it late one night while wrapping Christmas presents! Guess at that time we didn't have all the great Christmas Movies nearly 24-7 on TV like we do now! Plus, we didn't even have DVDs, yet! The Sandlot is a great movie about young boys and their love of baseball, friendship, and life! (There's also Sandlot 2 and Sandlot 3: Heading Home. Please Note: There is Language in these Movies. I'm not overly fond of the 2nd one, but the third one is rather neat, because they bring back some of the boys from the first movie all grown up!)

*My New Favorite Baseball Movie is now New on DVD...

A Mile in His Shoes  - Wonderful and Inspiring Baseball Movie starring Dean Cain and Luke Schroeder! Truly One of the VERY BEST TV MOVIES of the YEAR!!! Inspirational and full of Emotion! Terrific Movie for the entire family!!! (click here to read my full movie review!)

*Another Popular Baseball Movie also comes to mind ....

The Natural starring Robert Redford, Robert Duvall, Glenn Close, Kim Basinger, Wilford Brimley. For a Film Literature class I had years ago... we read the book before watching the movie and of course we had to write a paper that contrasted the differences between the two. They are very different stories - one concludes happily with a home run hit and the other - a strikeout! The movie is rated PG - but I think it's better suited for adults. It's a classic for any baseball fan - to watch Roy Hobbs, this young boy with a dream - become a man and ultimately fulfill his dreams.

*Other Notable Baseball Movies -

Field of Dreams - starring Kevin Costner. Interesting and deeply Emotional! I've got to say it.... "Build it, and they will come!" Wonderful story about the relationship between fathers and sons and their love for the game.

The Rookie - Great family baseball movie starring Dennis Quaid.

Rookie of the Year - Funny baseball movie for kids!

Angels in the Outfield & Angels in the Infield - Full of Spirit! ...Two More Funny baseball movies for kids!

The Final Season - Great Baseball Movie about a determined Baseball Coach and his devoted Team.

I love just about everything about the sport of Baseball... it's Americana as Apple Pie! I love to hear our Anthem played so proudly before the game begins and I am grateful they continue to sing, "God Bless America", in the middle of the Seventh Inning. It's not only beautiful, but encouraging, inspiring, and a plee from the hearts of all true Americans that God will, indeed, continue to watch over and bless this great land, that we Love!

Knowing that the 'Greats of all Time' - played this same simple game - and it has carried over from generation to generation - through good times, and bad times... Baseball  remains one of America's Favorite Past Times!

Enjoy the game tonight... "Play Ball !"

GMC Movie - A Mile in His Shoes

MOVIE REVIEW

A Mile in His Shoes

Network: GMC

Original Air Date: September 25, 2011

*Stars Dean Cain (The Way Home, Superman, The Three Gifts, etc...) and Luke Schroder, the son of Ricky Schroder (Silver Spoons, Lonesome Dove, etc...)

*Based on the Book : The Legend of Mickey Tussler by Frank Nappi

CAST:

Dean Cain ... Arthur 'Murph' Murphy
Luke Schroder ... Mickey Tussler
Jarod Joseph ... Pee Wee
Jesse Hutch ... George 'Lefty' Rogers
Anna Mae Routledge ... Laney
Andrew Wheeler ... Warren Dennison
Jaren Brandt Bartlett ... Raymond 'Boxcar' Miller
Matthew Robert Kelly ... Chip McNally
Kenneth W. Yanko ... Sheriff Billings

PLOT:

A heartwarming story in which a sheltered farm boy with Asperger’s Syndrome and a killer fastball is recruited to play for a minor league team.

Mickey Tussler, an autistic pitcher joins a minor-league baseball team and has a profound effect on the team and manager Arthur "Murph" Murphy over the course of a season.

Movie Review:

Truly One of the VERY BEST TV MOVIES of the YEAR!!!

Inspirational and full of Emotion! Terrific Movie for the entire family!!!

Mickey Tussler, a young farm boy with Asperger’s Syndrome, was wonderfully portrayed by Luke Schroder. And Dean Cain was perfect as their Inspiring Coach Murphy, who believed in him and his abilities as a pitcher.

(Dean Cain is one of the best actors. I was a faithful Superman watcher, back in the day! Dean is also great in The Three Gifts and The Way Home!)

In "A Mile in His Shoes", it is deeply moving to watch this young man develop and transform from being shy and alone, with mostly only his parents and his pig, for company... to believing in himself, having friends on the team, developing a stronger sense of courage, as well as keeping his faith in the Lord, and becoming a great baseball player, and in the end... making his parents extremely proud.

There is one scene of caution. Some mean boys decide to be rough on Mickey- so they lure him out in the woods and hit him. I believe only a couple punches are shown before Mickey falls. He is shown the next day - with scratches and red marks on his face. It is handled carefully. There is a great message in this about bullys and doing what is right.

Also, our family caught one tiny editting mistake. The bully from their team, Lefty Rogers, has switched over to another team, but when the boys are shown running into the game - Lefty is shown running in with them.

That little editting faux pax didn't sway me. I loved it - from beginning to end! Sometimes stories are summed up too quickly, but this ended just right - with a beautiful, touching, emotional scene of Mickey playing catch with his father on the farm! I truly loved it!!! Beautiful!!!

Thank you, GMC, for giving us this inspiring story!

The Case for Christmas - a Hallmark Channel Original Christmas Movie

MOVIE REVIEW

The Case for Christmas

Network: Hallmark Channel

Original Air Date: November 19, 2011

CAST:

Dean Cain ... Michael Sherman
Rachel Blanchard ...
George Buza ... Santa Claus
Barry Flatman ... Braxton Bennett

PLOT:

Michael Sherman (Cain) is a lawyer and single father struggling to obtain more clients. Being a single working dad, Michael doesn't have time to think about a relationship or work on the classic car he inherited from his parents, but his friend Lauren (Blanchard) is a mechanic who helps rebuild the family heirloom and begins to fall for him. Michael (Cain) takes on a case that could make or break his career... and Christmas. The majority of the population is losing faith in Santa Claus (George Buza "X-Men") and the Christmas spirit. To make matters worse, Santa is served with a class action lawsuit for irreparable emotional distress by sporting-goods mogul Braxton Bennett (Barry Flatman "The Kennedys") who never received the holiday gifts he wanted as a child. Santa believes he has a strong case because Braxton was always on the naughty list and asked for gifts, like a yacht, that were unattainable. Santa hires Michael Sherman to represent him. Once the trial between Kris Kringle vs. Braxton Bennett begins, Michael finds it's much tougher defending Santa Claus than he had initially predicted. Braxton presents a case of Santa's neglect and the biggest gift giver in the universe has difficulty deflecting the accusations.

As Santa's public stock continues to plummet, the press makes Michael the laughing stock of litigators. Both Michael's and Santa's careers are in jeopardy and it will take a miracle for a pouting, overgrown kid like Braxton to come to the realization that Santa always gives the most appropriate gift possible to every child.

Production:
"The Case for Christmas" is a Chesler/Perlmutter Production. Lewis Chesler, David Perlmutter and Rob Vaughn are executive producers. Marek Posival is producer. Timothy Bond directed from a script by Tom Amundsen.
